Channel 5 Outing

Sunday, June 16, 2013

Hello my dear friends (-:

Can I just say that I really really like the holidays? It's such a good opportunity to catch up with the people I love and I did just that with Channel 5 two days ago (Thursday, June 14!). Apart from mentoring the Captain 2014 candidates and our individual upcoming events if any, we didn't have a lot of House work to do together and we missed each other so much (': So we met for food, fun and laughter. Their company is so so so amazing, I couldn't have asked for a better team.

Really, we work rather well together and above all, we are all such great friends as well. I am so incredibly blessed to have the chance to work with them for this past year and we seriously need to stay buddies till we are eighty or something. However, on Thursday, Van didn't join us as she was overseas :(

That aside, we headed to one of my favourite food haunts in Singapore - Upper Thomson Road!

We went to Old School Delights, which not only has really nice old school asian food, it has an amazing interior design that brings you back to your childhood days. Unlike many, my first primary school (I had two) was really really old school where we used blackboards, play hopscotch and everything so this place does bring back a lot of memories because of the blackboards surrounding us (': I was seriously such an old school kid - much more than a lot of people my age, I believe.

You order your food by writing them on the whiteboard and marker which they provide us with. How cute is that!

Minglu & Hui Ying :-)

Mel & myself yay :-)

Old School Delights has this really cute wooden box at the side of every table, filled with old school toys like 'Happy Family', 'Snakes N Ladders' and five stones, amongst others! We played Happy Family, which became a lot more intense than I remembered when I played it as a child. Hui Ying and Mel formed an alliance and so Minglu and I did too, and it became such a strategic game with a lot of wit involved. When Mel and myself managed to form two complete families and Hui Ying and Minglu forming one of their own, the game has already dragged for at least an hour so we decided that the team who formed another family would be the winner. It was so crazy because we were sitting opposite each other and it was extremely difficult to communicate with another. My heart was literally beating extremely fast (which was bad because the previous day, I went to the doctor who said that I was hyperventilating). When Hui Ying took a 'Plod Police' family card from Minglu, I wanted to scream in happiness but I had to control myself in case Melissa decided to steal one of my three 'Plod' cards. So yes, Minglu and I are the champs (-: I wished it was an IHG (yes sorry we are too obsessed).

Hui Ying and I got Lime-barley while Mel got iced Milo - the glass jars which they came in was so cute too.
Tuckshop wings - the four of us agreed that these were amazing. It was so hot and crispy and marinated really well & tastily! The sauce that came with it was pretty special too, it had a hint of prawn paste in it (-: Seriously it was so good the four of us just couldn't get enough of it.

We played five stones for a while - none of them played the game before apart from myself! (Yes, I'm the most old school haha) I used to play these all the time when I was younger - my parents raised me up the old fashioned way without any electronic devices which I am very proud of, to be honest. My mum would fill these little cloth bags with green beans and teach me how to play them - they got me show-off rights a few years down the road (;

Love love love :-)

Outside old school!

With Melllllllllllllllllll (-:

The four of us were far from being full, so we headed to Salted Caramel across the street for desserts! Salted Caramel is my all-time favourite artisan ice-cream parlour so I brought them there (yes, going to Upper Thomson Road for a binge eating session was my idea HAHA it's fairly near my house and the entire road is filled with good yummy tummy-satisfying food). I really really like the flavours Salted Caramel serves up (-:  The ambience and lighting there is very nice to hang out in as well - it's clean and sleek yet not uninviting.

Our ice cream! (-: I got my favourite Salted Caramel flavour (I know I keep saying that everything is my favourite in this post, but seriously I love all the food at Thomson). Anyone who knows me would know that I love anything related to caramel. I always get caramel milk tea at Gongcha, caramel sundaes at Burger King, I like caramel smelling candles and I have a bottle of caramel sauce at home which I squirt over anything (yes my diet is horrible). Salt and caramel is a match made from heaven, with the perfect balance of salty and sweet. Put that into a nice, cold, creamy, smooth form and anyone would have won me over. So yes, I got salted caramel and earl grey flavours, with caramel biscuit all over the top (': (':

Happy kid with her ice cream!

Happy kids after their ice cream!

Mel's house coloured arm candy (':

We had such a good, long heart-to-heart chat at Salted Caramel (the place wasn't crowded at all, so we just sat there for a few hours). It was seriously an amazing, amazing conversation that was so raw which made us understand each other so much more, on a personal level. I never imagined that I would share what I shared with them or heard what I heard from them. Truth be told, I sincerely thought that the incredible bond we have with one another has blossomed into so much more apart from having meetings related to House work, apart from staying up till the wee hours of the night to do work, apart from panicking together, apart from conducting House Practices, apart from being House Captains. I never thought that I would trust them so much (': In that few hours, I really thought that our friendship has just been taken to a whole new level, honest.

Minglu & me (-:

Yayzerz high from sugar!

At Salted Caramel, we didn't keep track of time at all, and before we knew it, it was around dinner time. All of us didn't want to go home so we contacted our parents to say that we were eating dinner outside (': (Yes we are such rebels I know right) More time with each other - how could we say no? :-)

We decided not to stay at the Upper Thomson area and took a bus to Ang Mo Kio and headed to Ajisen Ramen at AMK Hub for dinner!

Mel & Mingluuuuuu! (-:

DINNER :-) (Minglu tried to buy the kids meal HAHA but failed to)

For once, my head's not the big one in our selcas.

Hui Ying & myself (-:

Mel was judging Hui Ying (we were discussing our MBTI profiles)

After dinner, Hui Ying and Mel got Gongcha and we headed to the water fountain in AMK Hub to talk more (': (as if we haven't got tired of each other yet) We are so full of nonsense seriously.

And we set a timer to take a photo of us (it was super shameless and obnoxious because that was a slope for people to walk). We look so candid because a couple was actually going to walk in front of us, blocking the camera and we were trying to act normal. Turns out the couple knew we were taking a photo and decided to stop and all of us didn't want to waste the shutter and thus we all looked into the camera (':

Yay final shot (':

I LOVE CHANNEL 5.

p/s: instead of just blogging about my own life & what I do, I'm also thinking of blogging my own recipes/ when I try out food recipes/ go on food expeditions (those who know me would know that I absolutely love being in the kitchen and eating) and I think it's going to be pretty fun so I can't wait (': I hope you guys don't mind if I do!
